So, you’ve unboxed your shiny new iPhone 14 and now you’re eager to set it up, well here’s how you do it nice and easy.
Before Set Up
There’s a range of things you can do to make setting up your new iPhone as easy as possible.
- Make sure your old iPhone is backed up: If you’re a previous iPhone owner and you want to transfer your old data to your new iPhone, it’s best to have an up-to-date backup of your device – also make sure you have your old iPhone to hand. If your previous device is an Android make sure you have this to hand too.
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection: As you’ve probably guessed setting up a new iPhone requires internet.
- Make sure you know what your Apple ID and password are: you’ll need this info to log back into your account on your new iPhone. If you don’t have an account don’t worry you can always create one.
Now you’ve got these first bits in order it’s time to turn on your iPhone 14!
Use Quick Start to Set Up Your iPhone 14
- Turn on your iPhone 14 and select your desired language and location.
- Position your old iPhone near your new iPhone. This will launch the Quick Start screen on your old device and offers the option of using your Apple ID to set up your new iPhone.
- Double-check that your Apple ID is correct and press continue
- Follow on-screen instructions to transfer your data from your old device to your new iPhone
(P.S you can only use Quick Start to set up your iPhone, if your old device is iOS 11 and later).
Manually Set Up Your iPhone 14
If you’ve got some time on your hands and a manual set-up is more your style here’s how to do it.
- Select the ‘Set Up Manually’ option on the Quick Start screen
- Connect your iPhone to a Wi-Fi network
- Read through the Data and Privacy prompt (we know this is everyone’s favourite part)
- Set up your Touch ID/ Face ID using the on-screen instructions
- Create a 6-digit password (you’ll be prompted to enter this twice)
- Choose how you’d like to restore your apps and data (this can be done for example via an iCloud backup)
Move From Andriod To iPhone
Okay so you’ve made the big switch from Android to iPhone and you’re wondering how to transfer over your data, well here’s how you do it
- Make sure your old Android device is connected to WIFI and download the ‘Move to iOS app’
- Turn on your new iPhone and place it near your old Android device
- Follow the on-screen set-up instructions on your new iPhone and when the Quick Start screen appears select ‘Set Up Manually’
- Keep following the on-screen instructions until you reach the ‘Apps & Data’ screen, and select ‘Move Data From Android’ in the drop-down menu
- Open the ‘Move to iOS’ app on your old Android device and follow the on-screen prompts
- On your iPhone, tap ‘Continue’ when the Move From Android screen appears. Wait a moment for a 10-digit or 6-digit code to appear
- Enter this code that is showing on your new iPhone into your Move to iOS app on your Android
- Your iPhone will now create a temporary WIFI network. When asked, connect to this network on your old Android device and wait for the transfer data screen to appear
- From here you’ll be able to select the content from your Android you want to transfer over to your new iPhone
- Once you’ve continued to follow all the on-screen prompts, and your iOS device has finished set up, double-check that all your content has been successfully transferred over to your new iPhone. Things like PDFs, Music and Books will need to be moved over manually.
