The iPhone 16 series is the latest addition to the Apple family, and as always, it’s being compared to its predecessor—the iPhone 15. If you’re wondering what the difference is between the iPhone 15 and 16, here’s a rundown!
Upgraded Processor
When it comes to superior performance, the iPhone 16 takes the top spot. This flagship model features a new A18 Bionic Chip built on second-generation 3nm technology. This is a significant upgrade from the iPhone 15 which runs on an A16 Bionic Chip. Jumping a whopping two generations in technology, the new 2024 chipset features a powerful 6-core CPU that’s 30% faster than the iPhone 15’s processor, delivering a smoother, more responsive performance.
New Action Button & Camera Control
Although the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16’s design remains mostly consistent in size and shape, a huge design change on the 16 is the introduction of an Action Button which has replaced the Mute Switch. This button allows users to create handy shortcuts to perform certain actions such as launching your flashlight or opening specific apps at a quicker rate.
Another cool new addition to the iPhone 16 is a Camera Control button. This acts as a hub for all your essential camera functions. When you press the button it captures a photo, sliding along the button allows you to adjust the zoom and double pressing the button allows you to switch between modes/settings. Now capturing amazing imagery is easier than ever before.
Whilst we’re touching on the cameras, there are unfortunately no significant hardware changes between the 15 and 16. A small change, however, is how the cameras are arranged. On the iPhone 15, the lenses are in a diagonal position, and on the iPhone 16, the lenses are vertically arranged in a ‘pill-like’ formation. Additionally, the iPhone 16 also has enhanced Spatial Audio and Wind Noise Reduction.
Stronger Ceramic Shield Glass
The worries of damaging the display of your iPhone will be less with the iPhone 16. This flagship model features a next-generation Ceramic Shield front glass, that is 2x stronger than the iPhone 15’s.
Different Colours
Apple is known for executing a selection of visually appealing colours with every iPhone release, and they haven’t disappointed with 16 series. The iPhone 16 is up for grabs in Teal, Ultramarine, Pink, Black and White; and this colour lineup is significantly more vibrant than the iPhone 15 colours Green, Blue, Pink, Black, and Yellow.
Apple Intelligence
The iPhone 16 supports the new AI-powered Apple Intelligence. This advanced intelligence system elevates the iPhone’s ability to process and understand personal context, unlocking incredible features like Visual Intelligence, which analyses objects and scenes via the camera to deliver relevant insights. Additionally, the new Writing Tools offer a range of convenient capabilities, including note summarisation, emoji creation, audio transcription, and more.
Slightly Longer Battery Life
The iPhone 16 battery has slightly improved offering users 22 hours of battery life whereas the iPhone 15 offers a lower 20 hours. Although slight, every additional hour counts.
